Antigua
What is it?
Antigua is an initiative based on a series of events that hark back to the medieval period, with costumes, music and foods of the time. It is a fair lasting two consecutive days, where the town is decorated with flags and tents while markets are held in the streets with local artists, artisans and producers. We select only the artisanal and agricultural excellence of the area, thanks to a careful selection of true Ligurian artisans and producers who carry on ancient crafts such as leather working, wood sculpture, embossed and filigree jewellery, etc...
The collaboration with medieval re-enactment groups, such as the "Sine Mellus Vel Corona", leads to the creation of a real 1200s camp complete with armour, costumes and duels. The town's castle houses an exhibition of original finds.
We must not forget the musical component of the fair, in fact during the day the Arcana musical company plays drums and bagpipes walking through the streets of the town while during the night concerts are held with choirs and ancient instruments together with fire-eating shows.
The excellent Ligurian cuisine is unmissable and is prepared throughout the day, complete with spit-roasted porchetta in full medieval style!
Medieval camp
History
Antigua was born in 2016 as an opportunity to rediscover the long history of the village, taking it back to the medieval period with a series of events that catapult visitors into an era of armor and duels.
In addition to multi-day events, large and demanding for our small association, a series of summer concerts were held, always with a medieval theme, with instruments and choral voices for a rediscovery of ancient music in a particular setting.
The project was warmly welcomed by the public and the last event was in 2018, but it could recur in future years. We are in fact thinking of a return of the "Antigua" fair not only to the Borgo di Rollo but also to the Borgo Castello, which is being reborn thanks to the recovery and valorisation work started by the Municipality of Andora.
Antigua will be back, rest assured!
